Overview of AB490 and McKinney-Vento Act to school/district staff.  AB490 and the McKinney-Vento Act address many of the barriers to educational success experienced by foster youth and students experiencing homelessness, respectively. The law gives increased responsibility to school districts, county social service agencies, and other child welfare professionals to monitor and support the education of foster youth and students experiencing homelessness.  Participants will learn about the mandates under AB490 and the McKinney-Vento Act including these listed below:  *Student right to school of origin *Immediate enrollment *Identification of a district foster youth liaison *Preference for mainstream school *Timely transfer of records *Protection for grades *Partial credits *Case worker and probation access to school records *Barriers faced by students in foster care *Your role under AB490 *What to expect from other agencies and how to collaborate for the success of students in the foster care system *McKinney-Vento residency status
